I recently had an idea to try and build a character from our D&D group using card concepts from the game I’m designing. (I really need a working title so I can refer to it by name instead of just “the game I’m designing.” Does anyone have suggestions?) Anyway, I started with the basic idea of a Ranger, and just made it up as I went along. Here’s what I’m looking at right now:

(Hidden behind a spoiler for length.)

(8 of Swords) Generic the Hunter [Persona, Hunter]
Class Affinity — Hunter (While reserved, exhaust +1 Hunter resource to activate.)
Skill Affinity — Discipline (While reserved, exhaust +1 Survival resource to activate.)

(7 of Swords) Just Shoot Him [Combat, Alacrity]
Resource — Missile (While resourced, this card gains the Missile type.)

When you commit this card to activate a reserved Missile, you may activate it an additional time for free.

(6 of Swords) Generic’s Trained Beast [Beast, Companion]
Beast Affinity (While reserved, exhaust +1 Beast resource to activate.)

While reserved, commit +1 resource to attach to target reserved Persona. (While attached, this card can’t be activated and doesn’t count toward your reserve limit. It grants all of its keyword powers to its target.)

(5 of Swords) Attack of the Beast [Combat, Alacrity]
Resource — Beast (While resourced, this card gains the Beast type.)

When you commit this card to activate a reserved Beast, you may activate it an additional time for free.

(4 of Swords) Generic’s Missile Weapon [Weapon, Missile]
Weapon Affinity — Missile (While reserved, exhaust +1 Missile resource to activate.)

While reserved, commit +1 resource to attach to target reserved Persona. (While attached, this card can’t be activated and doesn’t count toward your reserve limit. It grants all of its keyword powers to its target.)

(3 of Swords) Missile Weapon Proficiency [Skill, Discipline]
Resource — Missile (While resourced, this card gains the Missile type.)

While resourced, exhaust to search your Destiny and reveal a Missile Weapon. Then shuffle your Destiny.

(2 of Swords) Generic’s Blade [Weapon, Blade]
Weapon Affinity — Blade (While reserved, exhaust +1 Blade resource to activate.)

While reserved, commit +1 resource to attach to target reserved Persona. (While attached, this card can’t be activated and doesn’t count toward your reserve limit. It grants all of its keyword powers to its target.)

(1 of Swords) Blade Proficiency [Skill, Discipline]
Resource — Blade (While resourced, this card gains the Blade type.)

While resourced, exhaust to search your Destiny and reveal a Blade Weapon. Then shuffle your Destiny.

I noticed while working on these card concepts, that I preferred to give a card no more than two types, and that generally those types were “noun, kind of noun” or “concept, kind of concept.” When it came time for those nouns to have concept-relations, they wound up as affinities, while concepts got the resource-noun treatment. I’m going to have to fiddle around with these some more.
