“Your Proposal”
September 2005

This wasn’t so much trouble
The day before yesterday
I don’t know where this came from
I feel left in the dark
You reach out to me and I recoil
I don’t understand your calling
Or why I can’t just stand by your side
I guess it will pass with time

Just give it time
Just give it time
All things will be made clearer with time

I can’t help but feel anxious
I can’t help but be afraid
What can I expect from you
With this new turn of events?
My best choice now is sit and wait
And hope my path be revealed

Just give it time
Just give it time
All things will be made clearer with time

An incomplete thought
You approached me with
I see it now, ’twas not your fault
I was wrong to think of you that way
I see now with a clearer sight
A light of reason without
/petty rationalizations
We can move forward now
My path is now straight and true

Just give it time
I gave it time
And I’m left with no regrets this time

My notes on this poem say I originally intended to write another one, and got lost partway through writing it. The end result is a compromise between the poem I wanted to write and the one I actually ended up writing. I never did get back to the original poem that was eluding me, I wonder what it was about.

*ponders* I amuse myself sometimes.
