After a false start sometime last week, I think, I’ve finally made some progress on the short story I wanted to write for Elysia. As previously mentioned, the story will take place before Rumors of War, and will allow me to fill in some little details that haven’t made it into the comic. It’s been fun working on it, and relieving, as well. Being able to write Elysia’s thoughts and actions in prose is cathartic for me.

I previously tried to novelize the events of Rumors of War, for NaNoWriMo 2008, when I realized I just didn’t have the discipline to write and complete a novel. I still don’t think I’ve reached the point where I feel comfortable committing to a novel-length work of fiction (though I’m getting there) because I don’t want to start something I don’t think I’ll finish. I’ve dropped far too many projects for it to be worth my time.

So, for the time being I’ll write short stories. Not on any kind of regular schedule like the comic, or the blog. I’m going to take it easy and have fun with it. As I finish a story, I’ll move on to the next, and I hope to serialize them somewhat, and have them follow a basic story arc, but my intent is to give each one a beginning, middle, and end, and make them stand on their own. (While also fitting in the context of a larger story.)

So, you can look for Elysia’s story to start showing up sometime next week, I think.
