Ugh, I wanted to write this post much, much earlier today, but I find myself writing it about forty minutes before it goes live. Oh well, I can live with that, I think. “What have I been doing today,” the subject line asks. What have I been doing, indeed. I’ve been writing. Writing, writing, writing. I’ve also been doing a ton of reading and planning and making notes. I guess it’s research, but it doesn’t feel like research.

Mostly, it feels like I’ve been fiddling with things. I spent a good chunk of time outlining Chapters 23 and 24 of Rumors of War and getting an idea of how I’m going to end the first year. There are only two chapters left in this story arc, after all, … only two chapters left in the first year. I’ve introduced a new storytelling device into the comic, and I feel like I need to make good use of it in its first run. Things might get a bit more surreal. I like surreal.

I’ve been staring at charts and reading descriptions of D&D magic items. It’s very taxing and not terribly rewarding. I’ve been trying to think of a way to get more use out of all this knowledge I’m cramming into my head, because I hate to think I’m reading most of this stuff with the intent to forget it. There has to be a way to work it into the comic or short stories. I’m sure I’ll come up with something if I let it stew long enough.
