Until this morning, when I was suddenly filled with the urge to listen to the Wicked soundtrack, I’d forgotten how much of an influence the musical was on my concept design for Rumors of War. There’s the trifecta, really, of influences that inspired the comic: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Shoujo Kakumei Utena, and the Wicked musical.

I mention the musical specifically because I haven’t read the book and I understand there are some significant differences between them. (di — that is, if Wikipedia, TVtropes, and the various reviews I’ve received about the two works are to be believed. With so many sources saying the same thing, I’m inclined to accept them as the most likely truth.)

edit: Funny how I go through these cycles of forgetting things and rediscovering them. It’s almost as if I don’t have enough room in my head for everything and I keep dropping them on the floor. Of course I’ve already mentioned how Wicked was an influence on Elysia, though admittedly that entry doesn’t explain the musical’s impact on the comic’s story as a whole. Maybe this is good opportunity to do so? *snerk*
