I came to the conclusion last night (and reported this morning), with the help of some writing to myself and talking with my writer’s group, that instead of doing the unthinkable and revising my novel as part of National Novel Writing Month, I’d simply start on the next one in the series. And this morning, seeing a thread on the NaNoWriMo forums, decided that today I would make up for the last several days of lenience my not just sprinting towards my goal, but blindly rushing towards it.

By the end of the day, I will write at least 9,000 words towards the next book.

So I say it, so shall it be done. I want to call it a word marathon instead of a word sprint, but I think I’d technically have to write something like 26,000 words for it to be a proper word marathon. Something about the number of words we’re talking about. Now, I have no plot or outline or anything for the next book, just some notes and some loose and dangling plot threads. I expect to make it up most of it as I go, and maybe follow a formula.
