Last year, as a reward for completing NaNoWriMo, I bought myself the laptop I use for most of my writing and comicking. Her name is Thanatos, and she is my little angel of death. I sort of cheated: there was a coupon that saved me a bunch of money at CostCo on a laptop, and while my original deal with myself was “laptop after NaNo,” the coupon was only good through the month of October. I bought the laptop in anticipation of winning.

Well, I see it as a form of cheating. I’m not sure what I would have done if I hadn’t completed NaNoWriMo last year. I think I would have been significantly demoralized, possibly to the point of … oh, I don’t know, and it isn’t good to dwell. Thinking about the “what ifs” never gets you anywhere, unless you’re trying to fight crime or something, I suppose. Then it’s a good idea to consider the weird cases … but I digress.

When I parted ways with my roommate in September, I left behind the Playstation 2 for several reasons. She’d been making more use of it than I had recently, and I thought she would get more out of it. Plus, I hoped to eventually upgrade to the Playstation 3, and I thought lacking another system to utilize my humble, but growing collection of games would encourage me to upgrade sooner.

So, in a tradition that I began last year: I promised myself that if I finished NaNoWriMo (in addition to keeping up with my blog and my webcomic, of course), I would buy myself a Playstation 3. And I finished NaNoWriMo, and kept up with all of my other stuff (even if some of it feels quite rushed or incomplete). It’s one hell of an accomplishment. And downstairs, waiting for me to wake up “tomorrow,” is my new console. :)
